Open Skills Sharing: We live in a World which puts a price on everything, but if we choose to come together and share what we know for free everyone gains more. Holding onto knowledge is so 1990’s! Knowledge isn’t lost when it is shared, it is copied and doubled!

Events and Projects

Pillow Fight 4 Connection: This event is perfect opportunity to inject connection into the daily lives of people going about their lives in your community. Each event we run makes these positive communication between strangers more normal in our daily lives, reducing the distance between us all and bringing where you live one step closer to a place where everyone feels connected to a warm and welcoming; friendly and safe community!

Take a Smile: Imagine this, you are walking down the road, minding your own business when suddenly a random stranger offers you a smile and asks you to take it home with you! Its free, there is no catch, and once you realise they are not trying to sell anything you probably would smile, right? So does almost everyone, even those who don’t take a smile tab and everyone leaves happier and feeling more connecected to others around them and their local community for meeting us.

Free Hugs: With each Hug we bring society a little closer together, reminding people that there are many happy friendly people in this world who will give their time and energy just to make others smile ..and with the big news companies always focusing on the negative things people do it can be a much needed reminder that there are far more friendly people in this world and that there is no need to be suspicious or afraid of people they haven’t met yet!

Musical Connection: Music is a tool with a deeply rooted power that’s been used throughout human history to bring communities together. I really think it can play a big part in our project to create local connection, globally. Music has the ability to create a communal rhythm for all to share while they experience their own thoughts, feelings and lives.

Bubble Blow Flash Mobs are a really simple and fun way to spread happiness and positivity where you live. We turn the sky into a magical landscape flooded with beautiful floating little planets, and as any 4 year old will tell you – “bubbles are the most amazing thing in the world!!” ..this is why 4 year olds have more fun than we do!

Inspire my City With Inspire my City you can do something really wonderful to support the lives of some of the people living in your city, for the price of an hour or 2 of your time and few sticks of chalk! Why would you not want to wake up tomorrow and look in the mirror knowing that yesterday you inspired, motivated and supported hundreds, or thousands of people ..who doesnt want to be that person??

Free and Fun Festival of Local Creativity: There are creative people living all around you! This event is simply a gathering of local people to share, show and celebrate the creativeness living in their community. Invite everyone you know to bring and share their hobbies and talents with their local community.  As a guide, it is a celebration so colourful and cheerful will be the predominant theme, but everyone and everything is welcome!

(contact Andy if you’d like to know more, or set one up in your local community)

Community Guerilla Gardening:  Nature and the condition of our surroundings are deeply linked to our health and feeling of well-being, which is something easily forgotten in the hectic day to day life we live rushing around a dull, grey city; so lets come together to sneak a bit of nature into a neglected or boring corner of the city and bring that connection back into people’s daily lives through Guerrilla Urban Beautification!

The Focallocal Road Trip: Andy at Focallocal is driving around in a van setting up community events in partnership with positive groups all over Europe (and hopefully further), visiting cultural events to build awareness of our movement, and putting on community projects which show local people simple ways they can help the needy and isolated; all in the pursuit of making the world happier and more connected place!

Up-cycling teaching how to make useful and practical items out of materials that can easily be found for free or very cheap. Generally we run this event as a social group with isolated groups and we were in advanced discussions to start a market stall and Upcyling workshop in London to sell refurbished furniture and household items Up-cycled by people who are homeless or long-term jobless, until both volunteers dropped out due to other comittments. In the past we ran a weekly meeting making practical items at a homeless shelter that they could use (like portable candle heaters, water-proof wallets, fold up thermal cups), or we make simple items that folk who are homeless can sell or give away as gifts.
(I would especially like to hear from anyone who’d like to carry on the work we were doing in London).

Community Slip n Slide: We havent run one for about a year and a half (since our slide was stolen), but if you’d like to start one for your community please get in touch. I can help you find the materials needed for around 80 euro’s, set up a small crowd funding campaign so as to split the costs with everyone who’d like to come, share all the lessons we learnt and help you to shape it into a connecting event that brings your community closer together.

Lets Talk about Togetherness: Events relating to creating discussions with people passing to get them thinking about the philosphy of commuity connectiion, the roots of our disconnection and our cultural habits which separate us, which we dont stop to consider in daily life. In the past we’ve run a few successful events and projects but unfortunately i haven’t had time to write them up  Currently inactive, but i’d love to revive this campaign so contact me if you’d like to make one in your community, so for now please read about our Conversation Dinner with the homeless, the mega wealthy of Chelsea and world renowned philosopher Theodore Zeldin’s Oxford Muse.

– project which reach out to isolated groups in your local community with a smile

Take a Smile with groups likely to be feeling Isolated: Take a Smile is a brilliantly subtle tool when used as an kind and friendly gesture to show support and encouragement to those likely to be feeling isolated in your community. An unexpected positive gesture from a stranger, who has no reason to be nice to you, can be a really powerful and moving experience.

Inspire Someone in Need – Skills Share Workshops: Why not give a little of your time to share a brief introduction to your skill with those who are likely to be going through tough times and in need of a new direction in life to follow and build a better future for themselves

Skills Sharing with Groups Likely to be Isolated: Take a few friends and your skills and bring them to those likely to be in need of friendly happy people reaching out to them and inviting them to explore something fun and new

Free Hugs with People Likely to feel Isolated: As a Hug is such a fantastically direct way to help people feel connected to their community, it can be used as a powerful tool to foster a feeling of connection in those feeling isolated, and to remind the wider community that there are other humans living around them who are likely to often feel excluded and on the outside.
