If you are reading this then you’re hear and can see for yourself our website redesign in all it Glory. Ok its still, and seemly permanently, a work in progress, but i had become embarrassed by the clunky old one, and so i’ve set up this sleek new design for you all to enjoy using the opensource Largo Theme – i hope you enjoy it
Mission: Share this message and video to as many people as possible to recruit their help in spreading this positive initiative and join us on the 14th May giving smiles to promote friendly gestures between people who haven’t met in their city
You’ve seen the astronomical increase in people sleeping on the streets. Its despicable and needs to change. With politicians moving their policies in entirely the opposite direction; despite many studies showing that it costs the state more to deal with the issues caused than it does to support people and help them from falling into that state in the first place.
We need to do something, and so we’re creating a big map for free resources which societies most vulnerable can use find what they need to meet their basic needs, and begin to change their situation.
Tus talks about her first experiences of Focallocal, and why she decided to join the team – including an update on the 30 Day Draw and Give Away a Smile Challenge which she creates and ran with our community
Below are some photo’s of a horribly neglected area in the Maiden Lane estate, in Camden London. The story i heard is that the council disputes who is responsible for the area, and so its been left as a dump for close to 30 years. We’re bringing local people together to take ownership for their community, by creating beautiful gardens and landscape to create a lovely walk to school for all the families and children who regularly use the path, and to make the local area a more pleasant place to live. I’m sure those kids would have a nicer start to the day if their walk to school involved a magical oasis of creativity and nature ..than through this horrible eye-sore.Send us an email if you’d like to know more, join in, or help us contacting local businesses to gather materials, seeds and plants.Beautification begins on the 26th and 27th of September
The weather. It’s always a talking point. Maybe its because its something that the whole world has in common. Or maybe its because its an easy topic to start with if you want to break the ice and start a conversation with a stranger. It’s always going to be there, the weather.
We’ve been busy! International Give a Bubble Day is now our biggest event in terms of numbers that we’ve ever put on with more than 60,000 people joining us for Bubbly Positive Action in London, Amsterdam, New York, Barcelona, Helsinki and Toronto! (although Inspire MY City still has the record for most cities with 21!)
Andy speaking at the Change How? Festival on how we can use Positive Social Action to Change the World. The Change How Festival was for innovative ideas to progressively change politics, and bring it back to the people. Focallocal is deliberately and entirely non-political, so that we can remain open for everyone to join our Movement and community, regardless of their points of view. We were invited to speak because our ‘Do It Yourself’ culture is all about bringing people together to create change themselves in the World around them, and empowering people in that way does impact the World of politics.
