I’d love fans to stand up for their players and non-Caucasian fans by surrounding anyone shouting abuse to drown them out, and make clear that their views are not welcome. Something like a coordinated chant – if everyone knows the drill it’ll be far more likely to happen, take off, and spread among other clubs. It would be beautiful to see both sets of fans chanting something together to undo do any damage that could be caused to everyone who could feel victimised by this, by sheer weight of united support standing for them and against these views. If it became a widely used chant i could even imagine it ending racism at most sporting events. No-one is going to begin abusing players knowing that they’ll be the subject of a stadium-wide chant for unity in sport, aimed at them.

If you imagine incidents like when the England youth team were abused fairly recently. Those are kids living out their dream on a huge occasion, then a few idiots in the crowd burst the bubble and ruin it. If 99.9% of the crowd joined in a chant to let them know they are behind them then it would turn the moment from a shitty one into one where they feel backed as athletes and human-being by everyone there.

We shouldn’t just wait for clubs to do it. To the players the damage is already done at that point. Anyone want to join me contacting fan groups to try and make this happen?
