I thought i’d kick the mini-series off by introducing you to my life.
I’m not much of a social media type, so if you want to come along click subscribe on youtube, this vid is pretty much just for you. I’ll try to give a feel of the trip by creating a short video series.
Most nations are no closer to solving involuntary homelessness than they were in the 60’s. A connected community solves homelessness on its own, and so a few years back i decided to apply the Focallocal model and see whether we could bring people together to tackle the issue ourselves.
Nearly 2 years ago i posted on Reddit with an idea to help support the massive number of people sleeping on the streets in the UK. I received a hugely positive response to my post – so i took that and have been building a map to help them ever since. I quickly realised that this could help people all around the world the map is now a global map
We’ve been working on this resource map for 1.5 years now and it’s close to launch. This Hack-Day is to finally finish it, and promote it so it can begin helping those on the streets all around the World.
The map is called the ‘Brighter Tomorrow’s Map’ and it lists all the resources available to people who are living on the streets, with a focus on reducing the barrier between the public who want to do something to help, and those who are living on the streets around the World.
The main purpose of the Up-cycling workshops is to provide a relaxed social space focused around a positive activity, providing a brief rest from the stresses of homelessness and a providing a feeling of normality which is often hard to find while living on the streets.
